With improving the quality of education in the state being the prime objective, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan has lunged into bettering this aspect by introducing a reading programme in 1411 Government schools in Bangalore.

The programme, inaugurated under the banner Karnataka Learning Partnership (KLP), on Wednesday, is being supported by the Akshara foundation.

Addressing media persons, Basavaraj Horatti, Minister for Primary and secondary education on Wednesday said that 75,000 children in nine educational blocks would become better readers through this programme, conducted over three months.

Programmes

Stating that it was important to introduce such programmes in educationally backward zones of the State, Minister Basavaraj Horatti said that, KLP was part of the blue print being prepared by the Education Department that aims at attaining hundred percent literacy in the state by the year 2010.

Story cards

45 cards will be distributed to the students between standards 2nd and 7th for 45 days. The cards are in Kannada and Urdu. The reading programme will be implemented by over 4000 government school teachers trained by Akshara and government master resource Personnel (MRPs) and Cluster Resource persons (CRPs).
